C.M.E. Electric Motors. Inverter and Self-Braking Features

C.M.E. is a manufacturer of three-phase and single-phase asynchronous electric motors, with sizes ranging from MEC 50 to MEC 160 in different shapes and polarities. The principles on which they have been based since their inception are those of reliability and quality, so they have developed a range of products that can be used in many applications. Next, we analyze the characteristics of inverter motors and self-braking motors.

Motors with inverter C.M.E.

Inverter motors from C.M.E. They are available in both three-phase and single-phase. It is possible to regulate, very precisely, all the productive phases that require the use of the engine.

Inverters are characterized by their small dimensions. They are especially necessary in the following cases:

  • Check speed, torque, position or acceleration.
  • Optimize energy and material consumption.
  • Combine different machines with speed control in a coordinated way.

Inverter motors have a limited shaft height, which is why they are wrapped in foil packages with a small outside diameter, although of considerable length, depending on the power required. This occurs in the following versions:

  • Three-phase and single-phase with cage rotor.
  • Closed.
  • Externally ventilated.
  • Single or double polarity.

Some typical applications of this type of motors are the following:

  • Machines for wood, metal, marble and glass.
  • Machine tools.
  • Packaging machines.
  • Production lines.
  • Plasticizing systems.
  • Ventilation systems.
  • Pumps
  • Lifting systems.
  • Transportation.

Self-braking motors C.M.E.

Self-braking motors from C.M.E. are designed with a body similar to that of normal motors, but with a longer fan cover, since they not only contain the fan, but also protect the brake group.

The brake performs its action in the event of a power failure. The springs, when the engine is running, are compressed. When released, they exert their force on a cast iron or steel plate which, at the same time, compresses a friction disc.

The selection of the type of self-braking motor must take into account different parameters, necessary to identify the necessary dimension of the motor brake. Depending on the desired braking speed, the number of starts per hour and the flywheel mass applied to the axle, three types of brakes are offered:

  • K-type brake. Powered by direct current.
  • AC type brake. Powered by alternating current.
  • S-type brake. A decelerator.

Where can I consult the C.M.E. PDF catalogue?
