Instructions for Dispersion Paint Application with Wagner

Applying paint on a surface by dispersion is usually the most common method of doing so, as using a roller can mean more time, more effort and more material to use. But if we want to do it in an efficient and precise way, and this is something we will need if the amount of surfaces to be restored or coated for the first time is very high, we will need an airless spraying device from Wagner.

Recommendations before starting to paint

The first thing to know before applying dispersion paint to a surface is to understand what conditions are ideal for its optimal use:

  • Ideally, the paint should be at room temperature. This is the easiest way for the ingredients to bind together and the paint to become homogeneous. In addition, as the viscosity will be very low, the paint will be fluid and can be processed well.
  • If the paint is too thick, it can be thinned. This makes it easier to apply the paint and saves material. The recommendation is up to 10%, but the material must also be taken into account.
  • When spraying paint, be sure to wear a respiratory mask and conventional protective clothing.

Another important aspect to be aware of is that there are indoor and outdoor paints. And if we focus on the first type of paint, it should be taken into account that interior areas have many application zones.

This way of applying interior paint is not only reserved for small restoration works. It is increasingly being used in new buildings, underground garages and basements. And the larger the surface to be covered, the faster and more precise the airless system is.

Steps to follow when spraying paint on walls

In order to achieve optimum and fast results on even surfaces, we must equip ourselves with a Wagner Airless device. Once we have reached this point, then we can summarise the process of spraying paint on walls in 5 steps:

  • Step 1 – Surface preparation. As we would do with a roller and a brush, we have to clean the background to remove the paint residues. We also cover the surfaces that are not going to be painted. Masking tape works well on adjoining surfaces, while felt sheeting can be used for floor surfaces.
  • Step 2 – Prepare the appropriate equipment for the device. First, connect a hose of the appropriate length. Then, the appropriate filter on the spray gun. Finally, the appropriate nozzle.
  • Step 3 – Preparation of the material. In order for the wall paint to be homogeneous, it is recommended to use a mixer to stir it. The suction hose is placed in the paint bucket and the selector is set to “Prime”. In this way, the paint starts to be sucked in and the remaining residues are expelled from the device. When the paint comes out of the return hose, switch to “Spray” and aim the spray gun at a bucket until it comes out.
  • Step 4 – Adjust the device and spray the paint for dispersion. Normally, the pressure should be high enough to ensure a uniform colour density over the entire spray angle. However, it is advisable to check for possible misadjustments, as keeping it at optimum levels will avoid problems in the final result and wear and tear of the device and nozzle. It is recommended to start with edges and corners before moving on to larger surfaces. It is recommended to use it at a uniform distance between 10 and 25 cm, at an angle of 90° in relation to the wall. Try to move the spray gun at a constant speed and without tilting it.
  • Step 5 – Cleaning the airless device. To ensure a long service life, it is recommended that the nozzle used is dipped in a cleaning agent. The device, together with the hose and gun, should be rinsed with lukewarm water. If it is not intended to be used for some time, it should be refilled with preservative.
